Christmas – the best time of the year. Unfortunately, it flies and the Christmas decorations are cleared away just as quickly. But don’t worry! Because atmospheric decorations after Christmas take their place and make waiting for spring easier. We explain how to implement them.
What decoration after Christmas?
Christmas decorations bring sparkle and atmosphere to the apartment until January 6th. So that your home does not appear empty and dreary afterwards, winter decoration then helps. Even after Christmas there are long nights and low temperatures ahead, and the home becomes a retreat. It is therefore all the more important that the decoration creates a cozy atmosphere after Christmas.
What can be left of the Christmas decoration
Everything that is wintery can remain from the Christmas decoration. This also includes fairy lights that provide warm, indirect light all year round. Fir branches and cones, braided wreaths and winter figures also remind of the current season. In interaction with wood, the natural elements radiate warmth and harmonize with cozy home textiles. Furs provide comfort during dinner and the blanket with snowflake pattern is ready for the movie night on the sofa. So only Christmas baubles, the crib and Advent wreaths have to go back into the box. What exudes chalet charm and appears rustic can remain.
Winter decorations after Christmas
Even after Christmas time, comfort is the top priority. It’s still winter after all! The dark season lights up candles and fairy lights, plaids and furs warm, while flowers announce spring.
After New Year, the days get longer again. Scented candles accompany this transition with their light and pamper all the senses. Spice scents such as cinnamon or clove are reminiscent of Christmas biscuits, while the scent of mandarins and oranges is reminiscent of gifts for Santa Claus. Or woody aromas bring the scent of the winter forest home – also visually. Arrange several candles in front of a mirror leaning against a wall. It then reflects their light and provides exciting light shows.
Pine cones bring nature into your home. The inexpensive and versatile decoration inspires fans of every style. With snow spray in the modern home, in natural brown for the rustic parlor or glamorous in gold colors. Creative minds can hollow out the pine cones and then use them as candle holders. Put the cones on a small tree trunk to make them look like small winter trees or create a shapely wreath. Instead, hang the pine cones on a gift ribbon and use them to decorate the door or window frame.
In winter the lack of light hits the mind. The best solution to literally brighten your mood? Fairy lights! They beautify the view outside by decorating window frames. But even on door frames and railings, the small lights provide atmospheric light without appearing Christmas. The minimalist alternative to this: drape the string of lights in a bulbous or cylindrical glass. A highlight on the side table in the living room, but also on the windowsill. Also experiment with shapes and colors. Colorful balls look cute, but heart-shaped lanterns look romantic. The perfect decoration after Christmas for the whole winter!
Fresh flowers and plants
As soon as you replace pine cones and decorative branches with flowers, the anticipation for spring increases. Because a colorful bouquet brings fresh wind and a good mood into the house. Roses, hyacinths or tulips in all colors make for a colorful eye-catcher. Set beautiful accents with flowers and plants in decorative vases. Planters in muted colors, on the other hand, leave the stage to the colorful plant decoration.

Pillows, blankets, furs
Until April you want to snuggle up in a blanket, after which it is used on the terrace and balcony. In the winter months, skins create a rustic chalet flair – on the floor, as a seat cover or blanket. Choose a lambskin in the same color of the couch or armchair, or risk a color contrast. The sand-colored fur stands out on the white lounge chair, the dark gray counterpart on the light couch! Alpaca and cashmere plaids in the classic Brit style with a checked pattern are just as cozy. Soft cushions with winter motifs join their traditional colors. With snowflake and reindeer motifs, not only Norwegian sweaters, but also decorative pillows accompany us through the winter. The reindeer is at your feet as a fancy reindeer skin rug in warm brown tones. If that’s too daring, choose the faux-fur version!
Decoration after Christmas on the doorstep
Where the Christmas wreath previously adorned the door, it now looks bare. Why forego the beautiful door decoration? Together with decorative lanterns, it looks like a warm welcome.
An ensemble of lanterns exudes cosiness at the doorstep. Its warm light is inviting and shows the way to the end of the day! Particularly beautiful in gold colors if the entrance is supposed to be glamorous and chic. Its black counterpart made of matt metal reveals that the house residents prefer a modern style of furnishing. A lantern set with an ornate antique finish, however, adorns the front door.
Replace your Christmas wreath with a simple modification. A reduced door wreath made of twigs and bast, for example. If you want to give this color, work in flower branches or tie a bow around it.
